How to: Add a connecting line to an organization chart.
Solution:
While editing the organization chart, use the 'Connecting Line Tool', on the 'Standard' toolbar.
1) Select (single-click) the desired organization chart. (Handles appear around the border.)

2) Select the 'Edit' menu and select 'MS Org Chart Object'. (A submenu appears.)

3) Select 'Edit' from the submenu. (The organization chart window appears with the toolbar tools and menu commands active.)
4) If the drawing tools are not available, select the 'View' menu and select 'Show Draw Tools' from inside the chart window. (Four additional buttons appear on the toolbar.)
5) Click 'Connecting Line Tool' (dashed line button) from the 'Standard' toolbar inside the chart window.

6) Move the cursor to the side of a chart box. (The cursor becomes a '+' symbol.)
7) Drag the cursor, to draw a connecting line from one chart box to another.
8) Release the mouse button when the line reaches the second chart box, completing the connection.
9) (Optional) Adjust the connecting line as desired.
10) Select 'File' menu and select 'Close' from inside the organizational chart window to close the Organization Chart box edit window. (A note appears asking whether to update the organization chart.)
11) Click 'Yes'.
NOTE: Connecting lines indicate 'dotted-line' relationships between elements of an organization chart. A 'dotted-line' relationship could be used to connect an employee to a manager with only partial authority.
